Job Description:

Perkins Coie is seeking a qualified and dynamic individual to join our team as a General Ledger Accountant. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a broad range of general ledger accounting activities, including reconciliation and analysis of assigned accounts as well as assisting with fixed asset accounting and banking operations. You will deliver timely and accurate information to support business decision-making, budgeting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The position also involves participating in routine-based and special projects while ensuring adherence to internal controls and best practices. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to provide value-added financial information and services that drive the firm's strategic objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for developing and administering processes to analyze, reconcile, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies and enhance accounting procedures for assigned general ledger accounts, spanning low, medium, and high risk categories.
  • Identify issues and inconsistencies with general ledger accounts, promptly bring them to management's attention, and develop and implement effective solutions.
  • Responsible for completing internal and external audit requests and responding to inquiries related to assigned general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance and accuracy across all risk levels.
  • Assist with the maintenance of fixed asset and personal property databases by pulling supporting documentation and analyzing data, particularly for library expenses. Complete assigned personal property filings to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Complete daily matching of the General Operating and Depository accounts by analyzing, reconciling, and resolving discrepancies between the bank records and the general ledger.
  • Process general ledger reclasses and respond to coding inquiries as requested by assigned offices or departments.
  • Participate in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes by preparing and posting assigned journal entries in accordance with the close schedule.
  • Reconcile trust accounts and research related transactions for all offices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proper handling of trust banking activities.
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns for various cities and states, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Renew and maintain business licenses for all offices, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
  • Research and respond professionally to general inquiries regarding general ledger transactions, ensuring adherence to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Provide backup support to the International Accounting and Tax Manager and other General Ledger Accounting team members as needed.
  • File a variety of documents, financial statements, and reports into the electronic database, ensuring accurate organization and secure recordkeeping.
  • Complete special projects assigned, including designing, generating, and maintaining ad hoc and management reports.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance during scheduled working hours and as required by the position, in accordance with the firm's attendance expectations.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with all levels of firm personnel.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of general ledger processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance in all transactions.
  • Display solid proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and standard accounting systems to manage and analyze financial data.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to coding and accounting inquiries, conveying complex information with clarity and professionalism.
  • Interpret and apply relevant regulations and guidelines to both routine and unique accounting situations.
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail and organizational skills, effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Perform efficiently under pressure, maintaining high standards during periods of heavy workload and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving abilities when addressing issues involving multiple variables in standardized situations.

SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED

  • General understanding of standard databases.
  • Elite 3E and legal experience are beneficial.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Qualified candidates require a BA degree in Accounting or equivalent. Three to five years of experience as a general ledger accountant and/or full-charge bookkeeper or equivalent experience is preferred.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to 10 paid holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The listed compensation range reflects the typical pay for this role, though it is rare for new hires to receive an offer at the top of the range. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity.

Washington state compensation range: $64,210 to $93,960 annually
