Fleet Mechanic - DOT (Heavy Duty)


Hourly Range: $25.11 - $37.65



Closing Date: 11/6/2025 or upon receipt of the first 50 application submissions


Shift - 3rd shift Sun-Thurs 11pm-7am for the winter season Nov-April.



Job Summary: The principal function of this position is to repair, set up, dismantle and maintain all county owned vehicles and equipment.



Job Duties:



  • Fleet repairs - Diagnose and repair county owned fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Use various shop equipment for Fleet repairs - Use floor hoists, diagnostic equipment and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Repair parts ordering - Order repair parts as needed to fix vehicles and equipment.
  • Documentation Management - Complete and file paperwork related to repairs and maintenance per Fleet policy.
  • Auction preparation - Dismantle and prepare vehicles and equipment for auction.
  • Keep current on repair manuals and schematics. - Review and interpret service repair manuals and electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Winter operations - Respond as needed to all snow duty call outs.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Current Wisconsin Resident
  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License Class D at time of application and maintained during incumbency.


  • At least Three (3) years of formal experience in heavy-duty mechanic within the last 5 years. Able to troubleshoot and repair problems with little to no supervision.


  • Able to push/pull up to 25lbs and lift/carry up to 75lbs daily basis.



License:


State of Wisconsin Class B (CDL) is required within 6 months of passing probationary period and must be maintained throughout incumbency. (For Mechanic Positions assigned to the Mower Shop, a Class B CDL is not required. If a Mower Shop Mechanic possesses a Class B CDL, they will be required to be registered in the Federal Clearinghouse and random testing pool.) A Class B CDL will be required prior to any transfer out of the Mower shop.)



Note: THE ORIGINAL EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the State of Wisconsin. In accordance with Rule III, Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules, a noncompetitive examination will be held for this position. The noncompetitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
