Position Summary

Ensure the Community Center's security, process transactions using the Department's operations management software, provide event services, and perform cashier, administrative support and janitorial duties. Operate the reception desk at the Corvallis Community Center. Respond to routine requests for information. Provide customer service to patrons by telephone and in person. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.

Essential Duties

Ensures the security of the Community Center's equipment and facility.

Ensures rental spaces are ready for customers, dispenses equipment and cleaning supplies, performs pre- and post-rental inspections, and addresses facility use questions and concerns during reservations.

Provides indoor and outdoor event services such as event space set-up, clean-up, food service and event security for the Center's programs and rentals.

Performs janitorial duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, indoor and outdoor trash and recycling disposal, cleaning and sanitizing tables, chairs, windows, counters and other surfaces as assigned.

Serves as receptionist greeting patrons and performing as the first point of contact with the public at the Community Center. Answers multi-line phones, responds to routine telephone requests which have standard answers, routes calls and takes messages. Communicates information regarding Community Center activity and facility rental programs.

Enforces City policies and procedures. Responsible for patron control in lobby and entrance area.

Handles activity registration, facility reservations, memberships and other Parks & Recreation financial transactions on a computer. Performs basic mathematical calculations. Closes out cash register at end of shift; counts cash; runs transaction reports, prepares bank deposit and performs any other related duties to assure City cash handling procedures are followed in accordance with City accounting policies and internal controls.

Performs other support duties as assigned.

Conforms with all safety rules and performs work is a safe manner.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

One year related experience or education in office/business procedures and/or janitorial maintenance or event services preferred; or combination of education and experience that provides the employee with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and/or criminal history check.

Ability to work independently and handle a high degree of responsibility for both the quality of work performed and the security of the facility.

Requires an understanding of standardized rules, regulations and instructions. Routine decision making regarding assessment of immediate situations, available options, and selection of appropriate methods and procedures. Deviations from standard procedures generally require approval of the supervisor.

Ability to deliver excellent customer service to a diverse customer population.

Ability to be assertive, punctual and enjoy working with a wide diversity of people and groups.

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages, to get along well with coworkers, the public, staff and volunteers, and to maintain effective working relationships.

Requires high attention to details.

Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, basic math and grammar.

Working knowledge of standard office equipment, multi-line phones, and cash register operation and cashier practices that include register balancing.

Ability to handle cash and process payments adhering to City policy.

Ability to give and understand oral and written instructions. Ability to work from a diagram to execute space setups.

Ability to use a computer, and to quickly learn department-specific computer hardware and software to perform the essential functions of the position.

Working knowledge of safe work practices, and ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and equipment to perform janitorial duties.

Ability to enforce safety regulations.

Special Requirements

Certified in CPR/AED, bloodborne pathogens and first aid within three months of hire.


Oregon Food Handler card required within six months of hire.


Must be able to work during the major holiday seasons, during school spring, summer and winter breaks, and evenings and weekends.
