The Role: We are looking for our next Automation and Process Control Engineer within our Operations Team. The Automation and Process Control Engineer will support and contribute in process automation activities for all control systems and PLC's at the Newark, DE site. This role is responsible for control strategy design, development of control software, as well as identification of process improvement opportunities through process control. This role will also prioritize implementation of automation work. The automation and process control engineer will spend up to 50% of their time on day-to-day issues in production. This position is located in Newark, Delaware. Compensation: The current salary range for this role is estimated to be $99,000 - $134,000. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location. What You'll Do:
- Work with Sr. Automation Engineer to manage the Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers for the site.
- Troubleshoot process problems in operations
- Maintain a plan to support and sustain process automation assets for the facilities (system upgrade planning).
- Serve as a systems administrator for the process control area network.
- Support identification and implementation of required cyber-security measures.
- Serve as backup to Sr. Automation Engineer as the Process Automation Owner for the site facilities - taking full accountability for the automation improvement program.
- Identify process automation improvement opportunities and provide value assessments and prioritization.
- Support day-to-day operations to meet business goals. This will include gaining basic knowledge of the unit operations as well as ability to develop software for the DCS systems.
- Drive continuous improvement of process automation performance metrics including alarm management, manual intervention reduction, and Safety Instrumented System trips.
- Design and develop creative and effective process control strategies to optimize plant operations.
- Contribute to maintaining a prioritized work list for process automation improvements for the site.
- Assure Safe & Unplanned-Event free implementation of process automation projects.
- Understand and provide guidance in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Contributing team member in maintaining all process information systems / historian (MES) site-specific applications for the plant and develop new applications for MES / Process Information.
- Work with peers (locally, regionally and across the business) in the technology group to share knowledge, ideas as well as develop standards and best practices.
- Identify and develop process control changes and modifications to enhance operating reliability and product quality and to improve efficiencies of key resources.
- Identify and develop control mechanisms to improve reliability and efficiency of plant operations.
- Commission installations in a timely and effective manner
- Responsible for development of operating procedures as well as training of operations for start-up and integration of new equipment on process control systems or system upgrades.
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) pertaining to deviations, incident investigations, complaints, etc. when process control issues are involved.
- Participate in safety and health policies and procedures by ensuring that all control system processes and modifications to existing processes have been critically reviewed for safety and health and environmental considerations.
- Participate in hazardous operations reviews and project safety reviews.
- Ensure all changes, new processes and equipment has been reviewed and complies with current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP), ISO and other quality and regulatory standards.
- Support the plant's safety, health & wellness environmental and industrial hygiene programs.
- Participate in quality training in order to ensure that product is manufactured to customer specifications.
- Proactively network with other company Engineering technical disciplines (e.g., Consultants for Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Instruments & Process Controls, Electrical and Energy), plant and business personnel, and suppliers and contractors to improve process reliability, quality, and safety.
- Develop engineering solutions for chronic and sporadic process problems and collaborate with technical, operations, and maintenance to implement solutions.
What You'll Need: Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or I/E is preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in either process automation or manufacturing.
- Previous experience in process automation design / development is preferred
- Familiarity with plant operations as well as project work in the process control discipline.
- Ability to interact with cross functional teams, engineering groups, plant operations, research and commercial organization and management.
- Previous experience with Honeywell, Aveva PI, or Rockwell preferred.
Work Environment
- This role spends approximately 70% of the time in an office environment and 30% of the time in the plant environment.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in hot, cold and loud environments.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- This is a full-time position. Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands. The role is primarily needed on site. Some flexibility to work remotely when possible and effectively meet work requirements.
