SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Graphic Designer is responsible for the design and production of university printed materials and projects. Collaborates with the University Marketing team to create and produce printed and digitally-displayed marketing materials that support enrollment and retention efforts and advance the university brand. Working directly with the Creative Director, the Graphic Designer supports the timely execution of print materials across admissions/enrollment areas: undergraduate, graduate, and Law. Design and execute multiple formats of designed materials, including but not limited to: physical and digital signage, banners, college fair materials such as tablecloths, pop-up signage, etc. Recommends creative, cost-effective printing solutions that are delivered in a timely manner.

Follows the University's best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention, and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Design and develop marketing materials that may include: reports, booklets, posters, advertisements, brochures, flyers, and newsletters.
  • Manage projects from concept through production for university clients such as Admissions, Graduate Studies, UMass Law, six colleges and two schools, Chancellor's Office, and Advancement.
  • Utilize the Marketing ticketing system to prioritize and manage multiple projects, both independently and in collaboration with Creative Director and Marketing team members.
  • Work with Marketing Team and other stakeholders to ensure brand integrity throughout all digital/printed material.
  • Working closely with campus constituents and marketing team, develop and/or execute relevant pieces from creative briefs; design marketing pieces that conform to brand design standards and communicate brand messaging.
  • Collaborate with Communication Specialists for content creation, concepts, editorial review and approval.
  • Maintain print production quality and timely production for printed materials. Ensure print quality control; monitor pre-press requirements; assess, select, and recommend print vendors for projects.
  • Prepare bid specifications to meet University purchasing requirements. Work with clients to ensure proper paperwork is submitted. Recommend mailing requirements and work within budget.
  • Establishes close working relationships with university clients to develop projects and approved vendors to complete projects.
  • Manages project development cycle from concept to completion.
  • Work directly with the Marketing team to create graphics for digital marketing communications such as email headers, social media graphics, and digital ads. Adheres to media standards and specifications.
  • Meet client deadlines for design and print production.
  • Responsible for design and production in the absence of the Creative Director.
  • Recommend technical solutions for both increased productivity and marketing effectiveness.
  • Work with University Marketing team to identify and develop content that can be repurposed across marketing channels, such as digital publications shared to the University website.
  • Bring new ideas for design and content creation to the Marketing team, and to university constituents using your expertise, creative solutions, and eye for great design.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in a communications or design field
  • EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated (over three years) professional graphic design and publication production experience. Demonstrated experience managing projects from creative strategy through final production. Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with individuals and groups to accomplish strategic brand communication goals. Extensive experience in juggling numerous projects with successful, timely completion.
  • OTHER: Some local travel may be required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Experience in the design of undergraduate and graduate admissions materials and advertising from concept through production.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED



  • Experience with software used in the production of printed and digital publications, including graphic design programs; InDesign, Photoshop, and other Adobe software.
  • Experience or knowledge of printing methods and process for the approval and execution of printed materials; i.e. with print vendors.
  • Strong organizational, planning and project management skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess printers and their products and evaluate printed materials for adherence to specifications.
  • Ability to lead and work in a team environment.
  • Strong initiative to develop creative approaches and solutions to problems.
  • Willingness to evaluate, learn, and implement contemporary printed and digitally-produced marketing materials.


SALARY: $52,756 - $66,000
