Position Overview

Ameresco has a new opportunity for a Solar and Battery Policy Co-op. This co-op will primarily support policy management for solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS), focusing on legislative and regulatory developments during the 2026 legislative sessions. This role will help track, report, and communicate policy changes across key U.S. markets to inform business strategy. This co-op is based out of our Boston, MA office and will run from January to June 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and summarize policy developments, legislative sessions, and programs for solar and BESS in priority markets (Virginia, Maryland, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, and emerging states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, and New Mexico), including relevant ISOs and utilities.

  • Develop knowledge of solar and BESS policies, with a focus on how they impact project origination and development strategies.

  • Provide regular policy updates to Senior Manager - Policy and Strategy and assist with updates to other senior team members (Origination, Solar Development, BESS Development) through scheduled meetings.

  • Support participation in key solar and BESS industry associations by joining working group and committee calls.

  • Monitor and summarize official guidance related to Federal clean energy tax credits and compliance with Foreign Entity of Concern requirements as it relates to solar and BESS projects.

  • Maintain and help build relationships with regional policy consultants and stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in policy, economics, business administration, law, or related field.

  • Interest in energy policy, legislative processes, and renewable energy.

  • Ability to synthesize legislative and regulatory information for internal teams.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
