Please Note: This posting is intended to proactively build a pipeline of qualified candidates for future Electrician Apprentice opportunities. This specific position is not currently open and will not be filled at this time.

Electrician Apprentices receive comprehensive training to develop the skills necessary for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and components on passenger railcars and locomotives. Training includes both formal classroom instruction and hands-on experience under the guidance of a certified Journeyman Electrician.

This is a union-represented position. Starting pay rates are determined by the entry-level provisions outlined in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Metra is a railroad employer governed by the Railroad Retirement Tax Act (RRTA), and not the Social Security Administration.

Qualified veterans who meet the minimum requirements will receive outreach during the recruitment process in accordance with Federal and State laws, including the Illinois Veterans Preference Act. Please note that meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview or job offer. The most qualified candidate will be selected.

Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is committed to linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.
