Join Our Team as a Manufacturing Engineer (Lateral Automation) Intern!

The Manufacturing Engineering team in Lateral Automation Production leads and supports the development and optimization of S&C's assembly processes. As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Engineering, Facilities, Quality Assurance, and Assembly, to improve existing processes and support new initiatives. This role offers hands-on experience in process development, documentation, and continuous improvement. The position reports to the Manager - Manufacturing Engineering.


Expectations/Projects/Work:



  • Gain exposure to the assembly shop floor environment and strengthen technical writing skills by observing and documenting 4-5 distinct assembly processes.
  • Learn to identify and communicate risks in assembly operations by documenting issues, contributing to problem-solving efforts, and sharing findings with the team.
  • Explore process control technologies and actively participate in related projects by offering observations and improvement suggestions.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Develop and update process documentation, work instructions and routings to support Lateral Automation assembly operations.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving assembly process issues through root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct time studies and process evaluations to improve throughput, reduce waste, and eliminate bottlenecks.
  • Support safety, quality, and efficiency improvements at workstations across multiple production lines.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to develop and enhance fixtures and tooling.
  • Contribute to plant layout updates and support capital projects alongside Manufacturing and Project Engineers.


Required Qualifications:



  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or a related field).
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and contributing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


Preferred:



  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
