Description

Blaze is looking for an Assistant Vice President Controller who will manage the Accounting Department and ensure the accurate and timely preparation of financial reports such as internal financial statements, external financial statements and the NCUA 5300 Call Report. This position will be located at our Westminster office and does have bonus potential.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the activities of the Accounting Department and ensure the information produced is accurate and timely.

  • Review financial statements for accuracy prior to finalization and submission to senior management and the Board of Directors, as well as third party business partners.
  • Manage the month end and year end closing process.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of financial data.
  • Handle complex accounting-related transactions such as business combinations/mergers on an as needed basis. Also handle an upcoming accounting system conversion.

Summarize and forecast credit union business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings based on past, present and expected operations

  • Provide supplemental reporting for various business units (i.e. Retirement Investment Services, etc.).
  • Manage deposit and loan related reconciliations.
  • Manage accounting for shared branching, ATM/ITMs, payments, official checks, ACH and check deposits
  • Manage core integration with accounting software.

Provide leadership, training and development of assigned staff to retain a motivated, service oriented, and professional work force for the credit union.

  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to assure mutual understanding of desired results through formal and informal channels.
  • Assess employee performance; provide positive and constructive feedback on an ongoing basis to reinforce desired results.
  • Identify training and/or development opportunities to assist employees in achieving enhanced job performance and/or career objectives.
  • Coordinate the accounting activities of the credit union with other departments.
  • Act as an example to staff by upholding Blaze's values, mission, and goals.

Monitor trends and changes in compliance laws, rules and regulations in participation with Blaze's internal Risk Management Committee to ensure Blaze remains compliant in all areas of responsibility.

  • Analyze and coordinate written responses to prior exams and collaborate with other departments and employees to ensure closure of audit findings.
  • Manage policies and procedures within areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor internal controls established within accounting & operations departments.

Other Duties

  • Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, FASB and SEC pronouncements.

Requirements

Experience/Education

  • Minimum of 4-year degree in Accounting or Business
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional accounting-related experience, preferably in the financial industry or public accounting

Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following:

  • Active CPA certificate
  • Accounting experience in a financial institution
  • Experience preparing or reviewing the NCUA 5300 Call Report
  • Experience auditing or examining financial institutions
  • Familiarity with the DNA Platform (a Fiserv product)

Demonstrated Knowledge

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and asset liability management
  • Ability to:
  • Prepare financial statements; measure growth and income against company history and peer groups
  • Develop finance related calculations to incorporate into spreadsheet procedures
  • Analyze, problem solve, make sound decisions and exercise good judgment
  • Organize multiple tasks and be courteous in a busy high stress work environment
  • Adapt and implement changing technology so the Credit Union can benefit from faster, better ways of completing tasks

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit and stand; answer calls; operate a computer; interact with internal staff and the public on the phone; travel to designated offices; lift up to 20 lbs.

We are committed to providing salary ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.

The salary range for this position is: $143,000 - $178,000 annually. This range reflects the base salary for this position. We have other benefits associated with this position which include: low-cost medical (as low as $20 a paycheck), dental insurance, vision insurance, quarterly bonuses, generous vacation and sick time hours, paid leave options, up to 6% 401k contribution, and tuition reimbursement.
