Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.


Responsibilities

The Functional Analyst will play a key role in enhancing, optimizing, and supporting the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) used across the company's aircraft production operations. This position bridges the gap between production, quality, engineering, IT, and business stakeholders-ensuring that system enhancements align with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and best practices in aerospace manufacturing.

The Functional Analyst is a business process subject matter expert, actively analyzing current production processes, defining system requirements, and driving process improvements that increase efficiency, quality, and traceability throughout the aircraft manufacturing lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities

  • Facilitate workshops and partner with production, quality and engineering teams to gather, document, and prioritize business requirements.
  • Collaborate with MES developers, IT, and system integrators to design, test, and validate changes before deployment.
  • Analyze existing manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes to identify opportunities for digital optimization within the MES environment.
  • Develop and champion proposals to streamline workflows, reduce waste, and improve data accuracy for manufacturing, quality and IT.
  • Use knowledge of software development life cycle to develop the functional solution design, create test data, maintain test scripts, execute functional tests and document system changes.
  • Support MES integration with ERP, engineering and other IT systems to ensure end-to-end traceability and data consistency.
  • Work directly with executives, managers, end-users and IT to provide status updates, ensuring cross-functional alignment and strong relationships.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and work well with a team.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, MIS or related field of study.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in functional design, business analysis, data analysis, or a related role within an aerospace or complex manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of manufacturing execution and quality systems and processes such as assembly, work instructions, quality inspections, and material traceability.
  • Ability to perform 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. * 120.15.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, process design and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document requirements, perform gap analyses, develop as-is/to-be process maps and support system implementations.
  • Ability to interpret complex concepts and translate them into solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Functional knowledge of Dassault Systemes Delmia Apriso or equivalent Manufacturing Execution and Quality system.
  • Proficiency with process mapping tools (e.g., Visio) and data analysis (e.g., Excel pivot tables and advanced formulas).
  • SQL or data query experience to support MES reporting and troubleshooting.
  • Functional knowledge in SAP or equivalent ERP system.

Union:

This is a union-represented position.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range: $62,500 - $95,800
