Sign-on Bonus: Up to $20,000

Employment Type: Full-Time

Hours: Four 9-hour shifts per week (Hours vary: 6:00am-3:00pm or 8:00am-6:00pm)

Call and Holidays: Required on a Rotating Basis

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO

We are seeking a Recovery Room Registered Nurse, also referred to as a Post Anesthesia Care Nurse, PACU RN, or PACU Nurse in the recovery room area. The recovery room RN plays a critical role in our recovery room by caring for patients as they regain consciousness after surgery or other perioperative procedures requiring anesthesia. Recovery Room RNs are essential in ensuring a safe recovery from anesthesia, addressing any complications promptly, and supporting patients through the critical early stages of postoperative or perioperative care.

Responsibilities

**If you have at least one year of experience in the perioperative area of the operating room as a circulator, OR nurse, PACU Nurse or Surgical Nurse you are encouraged to apply!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but are not limited to):

  • Monitor vital signs and detect complications early.
  • Assess pain and administer medications for comfort.
  • Ensure airway patency and address respiratory issues.
  • Check consciousness, neurological status, and stability post-anesthesia.
  • Inspect surgical sites, manage drains, and dress wounds; watch for infection.
  • Provide reassurance to patients and update families on recovery progress.
  • Communicate patient status with surgeons and anesthesiologists.
  • Document care, medications, and interventions accurately.
  • Deliver discharge instructions to outpatients.


Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have:

  • Current and valid state RN license.
  • Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • ACLS (AHA) certificate 30 days upon hire and maintained current.
  • PALS (AHA) certificate preferred.
  • Previous critical care or PACU experience or a minimum of one year of on-the-job training.
  • Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
