The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Yuste Lab under Columbia's Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a Research Staff Assistant to support its neurobiological research. The goal of the laboratory is to decipher the neural code, i.e., the relation between the activity of neurons and behavior or mental states, by understanding the function of the neural circuits and the biophysical properties of its elements.

This is a temporary 6-month position, with the possibility of extension, subject to grant-funding.

Responsibilities



  • Performs morphological reconstructions and analysis of neurons with a microscope.
  • Assists molecular biology experiments and preparation: CRISPR, Western Blot, and Culture prep.
  • Performs general Laboratory upkeep, including lab journal archiving, equipment checks, and supply ordering.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree required in a scientific discipline.
  • Six months of experience in a research environment required.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or Biochemistry preferred.
