About the role:

Our Research and Development team is shaping the future of endoscopy. The Senior R & D Engineer will drive innovation in new product development. This role involves creating new technologies, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. The engineer will independently, or as part of a team, develop, direct, and execute plans for major segments of complex projects. The focus will be on conducting and leading development work to achieve optimal results in clinical applications.

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time.

Your responsibilities will include:



  • Consistently generates innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submits idea disclosures. Work is expected to result in the development of new or refined products, processes or equipment.
  • Successfully completes complex engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test of materials or products, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigation (animal and clinical studies), and report preparation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of research and development phases, such as technology development, and product development processes.
  • Works independently to plan and schedule own/ small team activities necessary to meet timelines.
  • Designs, procures, and fabricates tooling and fixtures.
  • Selects techniques to solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations.
  • Designs and coordinates complex engineering tests and experiments.
  • Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from complex test results.
  • Designs and prepares complex reports to communicate results to technical community.
  • Coordinates, manages, and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
  • May interface with physicians to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
  • Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
  • May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.
  • Passion for learning about relevant anatomy, disease states, and therapies, understanding clinical use scenarios, and solving problems for end users, with the goal of becoming a subject matter expert in therapeutic endoscopy
  • Ability to travel intermittently to meet the needs of the business.



Required qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in product development or engineering in a regulated industry.
  • Expertise in CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a self-motivated, proactive approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively.



Preferred qualifications:



  • Relevant experience in the medical device industry.
  • Familiarity with endoscopy, therapeutic devices, or minimally invasive surgical technologies.

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) - see www.bscbenefitsconnect.com-will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for non-exempt (hourly), non-sales roles may also include variable compensation from time to time (e.g., any overtime and shift differential) and annual bonus target (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
