SUMMARY

The Public Health Nurse provides public health nursing services to meet the objectives of the Division of Clinical Services. Deliver direct patient care in both the public health centers, out in the community, as well as within client homes to accomplish the goals of the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, Immunization Program, Tuberculosis Control Program, STD/HIV Program, Community Mass Vaccination Campaigns and other public health programs.

This is considered an Essential Position within the Office of Public Health. Essential Employees are obligated to report to work as scheduled or remain at work during emergencies. Essential employees carry out essential job functions or assigned emergency duties which may involve assignments within the Department Operations Center, Emergency Operations Center, deployment to a field location to participate in public health activities, or other duties as required during periods of emergency. If received, emergency assignments may be performed under adverse conditions and continue for periods ranging from a few hours to several weeks, months, etc.

Reports directly to Public Health Nurse Supervisor.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delivers direct patient care in the Office's three public health centers during Immunization and Communicable Disease Clinics.
  • Conducts client home visits and performs case management for children and families affected by lead poisoning.
  • Conducts client home visits and performs case management for clients with tuberculosis.
  • Conducts contact investigations for clinic client.
  • Assists in OPH disease outbreak investigations and response.
  • Assists during public health emergencies.
  • Conducts Quality Assurance compliance monitoring visits for providers in Montgomery County that participate in the Vaccines for Children Program.
  • Conducts childcare and school immunization record audits.
  • Assists in the development of the policies and procedures for public health programs and services.
  • Conducts community outreach to high-risk populations, as needed.
  • Performs phlebotomy, as needed.
  • Other related duties, as required.
  • This position requires the following clearances as a condition of employment: Child Abuse History Clearance, PA Criminal Record History, and FBI Fingerprint Clearance
  • Onsite in-person attendance is required as directed by Supervisor or Administrator

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing with a minimum of two years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Must have a valid, current PA Professional Registered Nurse (RN) License.

Experience and Skills

  • Knowledgeable in the principles of public health nursing.
  • Excellent inter-personal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs.
  • Ability to work independently and travel throughout the County.
  • Ability to collaborate with other organizations throughout the County.
  • Ability to attend trainings and meetings in and out of State.
  • Bilingual ability preferred.
