JOB SUMMARY:

The Cardiovascular Services Director is responsible for the overall administration of Cardiology Services within the hospital through the implementation of strategic plans. The Director is expected to provide oversight in all areas of the service line, including but not limited to the operations, financial management, and regulatory agencies and designated accrediting bodies, leadership development, patient satisfaction, quality, strategic planning, and market share growth of the services in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the hospital. Collaborates to guide throughput operations, resources, performance and management of associated departments/clinics directly influencing cardiac care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Cardiovascular Services Director directs the staff and programs of the Cardiovascular procedural areas and Chest Pain . The Cardiovascular Services Director will have matrix relationships with the cardiovascular nursing areas, ED, radiology, surgical services, cardiac rehab, and community outreach and will serve as point of contact for physicians as it relates to the service line
  • Guides the staff in the implementation of current clinical evidenced based practices and maintains the associated competencies
  • Responsible for growth and volume metrics for IP and OP services

Responsible for the operational efficiency of the department resources including staff, room utilization, pre- and post-recovery, supplies, etc

Directs staff regarding productivity and the cost-effective allocation of resources

Fosters a positive team atmosphere and a culture of safety

  • Understands and enforces all hospital and personnel policies and procedures
  • Lead and/or serve on hospital committees, teams, and work groups as required
  • Oversees required cardiac and stroke registry programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned

PROVISION OF SERVICES

Demonstrates leadership in the provision of services through a collaborative process designed to integrate services/functions throughout DHL. Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and improve performance of management, clinical, and/or support services. Directs the daily operations and activities of the cardiovascular procedural areas.

  1. Maintain accountability for overall processes affecting unit functioning by demonstrating improvement in at least one process or outcome annually with supportive documentation.
  2. Maintains regulatory compliance as related to The Joint Commission, Texas Department of State Health Services, the Board of Nursing, and all other regulatory bodies which apply to cardiovascular services.

Exhibits effective leadership skills through planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating departmental functions in relation to the UHS and the DHL vision, mission, strategic goals and values and in accordance with The Joint Commission's leadership standards

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred: Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related field. .

Experience: 3-5 years of progressive experience in managing operations in an Operating Room and/or Cath

Lab with at least 5 years of experience in managing complex process improvement and quality

projects in the OR and/or Cath Lab service line(s). Appropriate clinical experience (such as Cath Lab, EP lab, CVOR, OR, and Cardiology) Minimum 5 years Cardiovascular Experience in Hospital capacity is required. Experience with ambulatory cardiac care preferred. Three (3) years senior level leadership experience with Cardiology in a tertiary facility

Technical Skills:Computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Knowledge of Access and Project Management software desired.

License/Certification: Must have current RN license or ARRT.

Current BLS and ACLS certification required.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills; works well with physicians, nursing staff, technologist, patients and families. Must be well versed in all equipment, procedures, products, and regularly standards (e.g. American College of Cardiology Registries/Guidelines, Joint Commission Standards, etc.)
