East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, Center for Health Disparities (
CHD).
Our mission is to improve health outcomes among populations and communities with limited access to care across the Eastern North Carolina (
ENC) region through research, education, and training. The Center's faculty, staff, and community members work to address differences in rates of obesity, diabetes, cancers, and cardiovascular disease.
The term "health disparities" refers to the unequal distribution of health outcomes, illness, disease, suffering, and death.
ENC consists of the 41-county region east of Interstate 95 (pink areas). Health in
ENC is significantly poorer than health in the rest of North Carolina, and health in the
ENC-29 counties (dark pink) is the poorest of all. |
| Job Duties |
The Center for Health Disparities is seeking applicants for a temporary part-time Research Assistant (RA) position to support ongoing research at the Center. The RA will assist with key aspects of a study on the intergenerational health effects of Camp Lejeune water contamination, including:
- Data collection and management
- Interviewing families affected by the water contamination
- Analyzing and interpreting data
- Preparing manuscripts for journal publication
- Submitting abstracts for professional conferences
- Preparing materials for grant proposals
Work hours and schedule will be negotiated.
Temporary position lasting 12 weeks from the hire date.

| Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

- Experience in statistical analyses using SAS, SPSS, R, Excel, or similar analytical programs is preferred.
- Experience in social/behavioral research.
