About the role

Lead Maintenance Mechanic

Job Overview :

We seek a dedicated individual who will report to the Facility Manager and be responsible for leading and conducting mechanical maintenance repairs on plant equipment such as shredders, excavators, forklifts, skid steers, pumps, fans, compressors, hydraulic systems, piping, and conveyor systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, procedures and acting in a safe manner at all times performing safety initiatives by ensuring that all required inspections, training, and documentation are completed
  • Lead and mentor the less experienced mechanics to ensure daily maintenance objectives are completed safely and in a timely manner.
  • Lead and mentor the team to perform simple machinist duties, maintenance on equipment and repairs.
  • Must be able to travel to other facilities to diagnose and repair equipment
  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines
  • Ability to perform shredder teeth exchange and related maintenance.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service. Report these and other issues to management.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions. Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from operatorsto diagnose equipment problems. Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear. Test newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Ensures training and updates are kept
  • Perform other work related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by management.
  • Coordinate third party vendor repairs as needed for equipment.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday 7 am to 4 pm with some OT during the week and Saturdays as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess good communication skills and legible handwriting
  • 2 years facility maintenance experience and 10-Hour OSHA General Industry safety training preferred
  • GED or HS Diploma
  • Valid Drivers License with good driving record
  • Ability to provide leadership to the team for daily and routine work direction
  • Must be able to work overtime asneeded,including nights, weekends, and holidays, with minimum notice.
  • Has a good safety record and demonstrates the ability to follow all facility safety procedures and programs.
  • Ability to speak and communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to complete all Maintenance & Safety Training within prescribed deadlines, which are expected to be met as a condition of employment.

Physical Demands:

  • Work in close quarters and confined spaces.
  • Climb ladders and structures.
  • Tolerate heights, high temperatures, and work outside.
  • Can frequently lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands or arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl for extended hours.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for the job and the assigned task.
  • Specific vision ability required by this job included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
