As a Content Specialist at Southwest Airlines, you'll create thumb-stopping social content that reflects our Brand voice and connects with millions of Customers across platforms like Instagram and TikTok. You'll collaborate with social strategy and creative partners to deliver best-in-class content that builds brand love, drives engagement, and supports key business goals. In this role, you'll manage everything from shooting and editing videos to scheduling posts, moderating conversations, and reporting performance. You'll also engage with social communities, support influencer partnerships, and help mitigate crisis events-shaping the digital personality of Southwest and strengthening our reputation online. Responsibilities
- Collaborate with teams and clients across Southwest to develop creative social media content, write copy, and implement strategies that align with the brand's goals and objectives.
- Produce compelling and original social media content for various social media and digital platforms in visual and written formats.
- Engage in social media comments and replies on social channels to create moments and build relationships with Southwest's audience.
- Develop cohesive social media visual themes and aesthetics that resonate with the target audience and enhance brand identity.
- Collaborate to plan content social media calendars, ensuring consistency, approvals, and relevance of content.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for crisis mitigation (on a rotational basis) for a week that includes identifying online threats and leading a daily meeting for that week.
- Stay informed about social media content creation, trends, viral content, and industry news to capitalize on relevant opportunities and keep content fresh and relevant.
- Adapt content strategies and formats to leverage emerging trends and capitalize on new opportunities for engagement.
- Create, schedule, and publish content across social and digital platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest.
- Monitor content performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of content strategies and campaigns.
- Use data-driven insights to optimize content for better reach, engagement, and conversion.
- Continuously test and iterate on content strategies and formats to improve performance and achieve business objectives.
- Develop strong, lasting relationships and strategic partnerships that bring storytelling opportunities to meet company objectives and reach new audiences

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of communication strategies, tactics and tools and an understanding of their convergence
- Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Skilled in content creation such as video production, editing, and copywriting
- Skilled in creating and executing social media strategies that drive organizational performance in the areas of Communication, Marketing, and Engagement
- Skilled in identifying and curating stories through social media engagement and/or listening tools that support the Company's goals and objectives
- Skilled in prioritization of projects with time constraints and complete them in a timely manner
- Skilled in handling multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail
- Skilled in coming up with unusual or clever ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem
- Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Ability to distill multiple complex issues down to easily understandable and actionable messages for various stakeholders, including media, Employees, and Customers across a variety of social and digital channels
- Ability to listen to, understand, and communicate ideas presented in writing and/or in speaking with others
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in:
- Marketing/Communications/Branded Content & Entertainment
- Content planning, development, calendaring, and publishing
Preferred experience in creating content for a brand or business Preferred experience in managing content accounts Preferred experience in social media community management
Physical Abilities
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and mobile device and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits:
- Competitive market salary from $63,700.00per year to $70,800.00per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
