Description

Director of Domestic LE Sales


The Director of Domestic LE Sales will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction with respect to Smith & Wesson's law enforcement sales efforts across the entirety of The United States. This role will establish and execute a comprehensive strategy for the U.S. Law Enforcement market. She or he will be responsible for setting goals, formulating implementation strategies, tracking and managing performance, and modifying approach as necessary to achieve strategic objectives in the American law enforcement market. The Director of Domestic LE Sales will report directly to the Vice President of Sales.



Location


Maryville, TN. To be considered, applicants must live in a commutable distance to Maryville, TN or express a willingness to relocate on their resume or in a cover letter. The travel requirement for this role is 50-75%.



Experience & Education Requirements



  • Minimum of 5-10 years of sales experience in the firearms industry, preferably in the U.S. Law Enforcement channel
  • Must show progressive increases in managerial and leadership responsibilities on resume
  • Bachelor's degree in sales, marketing or related field, is preferred.
  • Must have exceptional firearms knowledge and a complete understanding of safe firearms handling skills.
  • Experience as a law enforcement officer and/or member of the U.S. military is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience as a law enforcement/ military firearms instructor, or equivalent experience with a reputable private entity, is preferred.
  • Requisite knowledge to operate a live-fire police range and the ability to communicate and teach this knowledge to others, is a definite plus.
  • Experience with the FAR / DFAR requirements, or with state or municipal equivalent, is a definite plus.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies to achieve sales and other performance objectives and to grow Smith & Wesson's market share in the U.S. law enforcement channel, including:

    • Determining product positioning and pricing strategy, and developing and managing operating budgets and controlling expenditures;
    • Preparing periodic reports showing sales volume, major and minor sales opportunities, and areas of proposed customer base expansion and presenting to executive management;
    • Setting appropriate performance goals and priorities and monitoring weekly prospecting efforts;
    • Create appropriate policies, procedures and processes;
    • Evaluating market information and adjusting strategy and priorities to meet changing competitive conditions;


  • Foster and ensure a culture of effective communication and information flow so as to maintain a high degree of customer satisfaction through the purchasing experience and after sales support.
  • Maintain relationships with key corporate stake holders including but not limited to, the Operations, Sales Operations, Engineering, Finance, Legal and Compliance departments, in order to ensure timely and effective support for the law enforcement team as required in the course of day-to-day business activities.
  • Create a culture of compliance and ethical business conduct, and take steps to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and rules governing the sale of firearms, spare parts, accessories, and handcuffs in the U.S. Law Enforcement channel. This includes the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the regulations and rules of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), as well as Company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key law enforcement agencies at the municipal, state and federal level, as well as the base of Law Enforcement Resellers across the United States.
  • Manage the base of LE Resellers to include hiring and firing and territory management to ensure maximum coverage of second tier sales staffs.
  • Hold the base of LE Resellers to contractual buy-in requirements.
  • Direct and manage the activities and performance of the law enforcement sales team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Represent Smith & Wesson at applicable trade shows, meetings and sales events in the law enforcement channel.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints and product challenges in a fast and efficient manner.
  • Plan, organize and direct appropriate training programs to meet customers' the training needs and objectives. Ensure that current training programs remain current and relevant and revise/update them as needed.
  • Travel 50-75%

Competencies and Skills



  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills;
  • Exceptional skills in MS Office Suite -- Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.

  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of sales and marketing techniques and principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating and implementing a robust strategic plan.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm.
  • If allowed by the individual's state of residence the candidate must possess a concealed handgun permit or HR 218 equivalent certification.


Physical Demands



  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, push, pull, carry, reach, twist.
  • Able to drive a motor vehicle for periods of up to 8 hours.
  • Able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment


Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.


The following Personal Protective Equipment is required: Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor.


The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
