Job Overview

Supports the development and implementation of a continuous quality management and improvement program across perioperative services and within the broader Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) care delivery system. Leads and evaluates quality improvement initiatives through data analysis and evidence-based interventions to enhance patient and family outcomes. Collaborates with clinical staff, quality committees, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary partners to identify best practices, address barriers, and promote a culture of quality and patient safety.

Department Name: Perioperative Services
Job Status: part time, 24 hours per week, eligible for benefits
Shift: three 8-hour shifts per week (days of the week will vary based on department needs). NO weekends, holidays, or off-shifts required.

*This position will support our Anschutz Campus

This position is eligible for relocation assistance, if relocating from 100 miles or greater.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • *Champions the implementation and maintenance of perioperative-specific policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring consistency with evidence-based practice and organizational standards.
  • *Engages with community groups, service providers, and stakeholders to gather input on the CSV program and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • *Rounds with patients, families, and care teams to assess the perioperative experience, identify improvement opportunities, and validate compliance with ACS standards.
  • *Leads the Children's Surgery Verification (CSV) program through the American College of Surgeons (ACS), including ongoing readiness, coordination of site visits, evidence collection, and corrective action follow-up. Ensures compliance with CSV requirements and advises on policy interpretation and revisions.
  • *Gathers, analyzes, and reports perioperative quality and outcomes data to meet internal benchmarks and external regulatory requirements from the ACS, the State of Colorado, and other agencies. Prepares risk-adjusted performance reports and dashboards.
  • *Performs advanced case abstraction and validation from the CHCO electronic health record to support case reviews, audits, and registry submissions; ensures data integrity for ACS and state reporting.
  • *Participates in research and data analysis initiatives to advance perioperative quality and patient safety outcomes.
  • *Consults with perioperative staff and leaders to interpret data, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable improvement strategies.
  • *Facilitates sharing of best practices and leads system-wide perioperative quality and safety initiatives, including gap analyses and remediation efforts to maintain ACS verification status across all perioperative locations.
  • *Assists in evaluating the achievement of quality standards to ensure compliance with organizational, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
  • *Leads and participates in perioperative quality improvement (QI) committees and workgroups focused on enhancing clinical processes and patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Experience: Four (4) years of clinical nursing experience, including a minimum of one (1) years in perioperative nursing or surgical quality/registry work required. Perianesthsia nurses welcome to apply as well.
Certification(s):
* BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
* CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse)
* CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality)
Licensure(s): Current Registered Nurse (RN) license

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range: $40.26 to $60.39
