The Product Stewardship Specialist works closely with Sherwin-Williams customers to meet their needs for regulatory documents and data. The Product Stewardship Specialist will leverage relationships with regulatory Subject Matter Experts, Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, and Enterprise Technology to gather and deliver documents and data to customers.

Respond to customer inquiries

  1. Review and understand customer inquiries related to technical regulatory issues. Develop appropriate responses and provide information and data to resolve the issue. Communicate accurately and clearly.
  2. Complete requests for regulatory documents such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Environmental Data Sheets (EDS), RoHS Certifications, REACH SVHC Certifications, etc.
  3. Support customer data systems and ensure accurate entry of product regulatory data into those systems. Possess sufficient knowledge to recognize questionable data and assist to resolve to meet data standards.
  4. Complete customer forms for regulatory data that may include analyzing product composition for chemicals of concern and gathering input from other areas within regulatory (e.g. Chemical Compliance, Sustainability, VOC Compliance Team).
  5. Provide support to business product stewards, as needed, on customer projects.
  6. Identify internal stakeholders and communicate customer issues or concerns to them as appropriate.

Assist Legal

  1. Assist Sherwin Williams legal department with retrieval of historical MSDS and SDS documents.

Gain Regulatory Knowledge

  1. Become knowledgeable on global chemical regulations such as California Proposition 65, RoHS, REACH SVHC, Conflict Minerals, etc.
  2. Gain a general understanding of GHS and SDS frameworks.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a physical science or engineering

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or similar

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Some chemical or coatings industry background in materials and chemical regulations

Preferred:

  • 2 years' experience in regulatory affairs or product stewardship
  • Work experience in the coatings industry

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Knowledge of basic chemistry
  • Attention to detail
  • Skilled in data entry accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of chemical regulations and hazard communication
