Summary of Job Duties:The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for the construction or installation and repair of a variety of materials requiring accuracy and good appearance, such as doors, stairs, roofs, partitions, walls, hardware, and fixtures. Make repairs to office furniture, cabinets, etc. Operate a variety of power hand tools and woodworking machinery as required. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma;
  • Five years of verifiable experience in one or more of the skilled trades;
  • Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to drive a vehicle.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform general carpentry using hand and power tools to repair and build structures using necessary materials, such as; wood, sheetrock, roofing, painting, and glass installation;
  • Install, maintain, and repair materials made from wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials;
  • Install a variety of wall and floor finish materials such as wood, tile, carpet, paint, tape, and float sheetrock, and erect or remove walls and ceiling systems;
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moldings, and hardware;
  • Performs minor locksmith repairs;
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs;
  • Use accepted methods, practices, and safety precautions in the completion of skilled trades work;
  • May assist other skilled tradesmen to complete projects that require multiple departments to work together;
  • Maintain the inventory of tools and parts specific to assigned trade;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades;
  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades;
  • Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades;
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings to determine specifications and calculate requirements;
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and renovate buildings as assigned;
  • Ability to maintain inventory of needed parts and tools for one or more of the skilled trades;
  • Ability to operate power tools;
  • Ability to measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join moldings, wood materials, drywall and plastic materials, etc.;
  • Ability to fit and install or apply doors, stairs, moldings, hardware, framing, sheetrock walls, drop-in ceiling systems, tile, carpet, and paint;
  • Ability to work on a team, and supervise apprentices and other construction workers;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned; Work inclement weather schedule as assigned
