The position of Operational Accountant, Power & Gas is a salaried, exempt role will that perform key duties for the monthly accounting of natural gas marketing, negotiation & resolution of invoicing related disputes and transportation & plant processing for our clients (producers, pipelines, midstream companies & end-users). The primary duty of this position is working directly with clients for timely resolution & negotiation of invoicing disputes and/or inquiries. This position reports to the Manager, Gas Accounting and is located onsite at is located onsite at the Mansfield Power & Gas office in Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas.
- Responsibilities:
Analysis & Reconciliation w/ Clients:
- Work directly with multiple clients resolving inquiries/disputes regarding invoices. This includes exercising independent decision making to negotiate directly with clients to ensure timely resolution of the issue(s).
- Consults with leadership before making atypical binding resolutions with clients on invoicing issues.
- Analyze monthly pipeline invoices to ensure correct transportation rates and allocation of reported volumes.
- Analyze, research and resolve any reconciling items on a monthly basis.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets and others.
General Ledger Management & Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the monthly balancing of physical transport volumes which includes volume balancing, analysis, allocation & reporting.
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy & completeness.
- Assist with month-end, quarterly and year-end close processes & reporting.
- Ensure all transactions are accounted for in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Prioritize tasks to ensure that deadlines are met during the month end close process.
ERP Reporting & Contracts:
- Assist with ensuring contracts are entered into the GMS system correctly and are properly reflected.
- Assist with aggregation & compilation of monthly management reports. Assist with variance analysis on monthly, quarterly & annual basis.
- Work with the Director of Accounting entering & verifying the accounting effects of new & existing client contracts (Agency, WASP, Wellhead purchase, etc....) and new NAESB, GISB contracts.
Internal Processes:
- Work closely with internal Accounting, Contracts, Gas Schedulers, Measurement and Commercial teams to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
- Comply with all internal controls to protect the assets of the Company.
- Communicate any issues and/or internal control gaps to management in an expedient manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Position Requirements:
Formal Education & Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or) a minimum completion of a high school diploma and equivalent industry experience.
Knowledge & Experience:
- One to three years' experience in an Accounting position within the natural gas industry (or) comparable experience in a relevant industry.
- Preference given to applicants with working knowledge of Natural Gas industry specific software.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP best practices for general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Excel.

- Strong negotiation skills and ability to exercise independent decision making within tight timeframes.
- Strong analytical skills and detail oriented.
- Time and task management skills essential.
Work Environment:
- After completion of the introductory period of employment, this position is eligible for the Company's 3x2 hybrid work schedule which consists of a 40-hour work week with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, business conditions permitting.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Able to view computer terminal for prolonged periods of time.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and other computer components.
- Close visual acuity needed to review financial statements and for discerning fine print.
- As directed, this position will have planned, overnight travel to Company headquarters several times a year.
