SUMMARY:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Intern supports the Director of Health and Safety with daily safety and environmental initiatives. Responsibilities include conducting safety observations, assisting with documentation and training preparation, and supporting compliance activities. The EHS Intern also helps strengthen and promote the facility's safety culture through regular engagement on the manufacturing floor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) initiatives by collecting observation data and distributing program materials.
- Support internal Environmental Health & Safety policies and procedures as well as compliance with applicable federal and state safety and environmental regulation by reporting observations and potential violations to the Director of Health and Safety in a timely manner.
- Assist in developing and organizing safety education, training materials, and awareness communications.
- Support emergency response activities by helping maintain emergency supplies and documentation.
- Assist with OSHA and other regulatory safety recordkeeping by maintaining accurate files and documentation.
- Assist with basic accident investigation tasks, such as photo documentation and form preparation.
- Participate in workplace safety inspections and help identify unsafe conditions.
- Help maintain training records, sign-in sheets, and renewal calendars in coordination with Human Resources.
- Assist in onboarding safety training for new employees by preparing materials and tracking completion.
- Special project and assignments as business dictates

- This position has no supervisory responsibilities
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently pursuing or possess a degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field
- 0-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
- Basic understanding of safety and environmental concepts, regulations, and risk-control principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to assist across multiple locations when needed.
- Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Must have attention to detail and focused concentration.
- Must be able to complete tasks that require a particular speed or productivity quota.
- Must be able to adhere to process protocol and must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The noise level requires the use of hearing protection.
- The environment is subject to temperature change with the seasons
- The environment is cleaned at the end of each shift, but is subject to paper dust from multiple converting operations.
