Purpose

The College of Liberal Arts seeks a talented systems administrator with deep knowledge of Linux/UNIX environments and a strong interest in DevOps to work with cross-functional teams creating and supporting systems and applications for online learning and research, administrative tools, and web applications and content management. This role will be responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of central IT infrastructure and applications.

Responsibilities
  • Provides technical design, implementation, security, integrity, maintenance, and support for complex computing environments supporting core business needs.

  • Provides ongoing system trouble-shooting and enhancements to meet changes in business needs and improve system reliability, performance, and security.

  • Provides capacity planning and forecasting to ensure long-term systems requirements are included in organizational planning.

  • Leads various projects, mentors junior staff, and provides direct team and client support.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

  • At least four years' experience supporting common virtualization platforms (i.e., VMware, OpenShift/KVM) with Linux and Windows-based server operating systems.

  • Experience with LDAP, Active Directory, 2FA, common DBMSs (MS SQL, MySQL, PostgresSQL), configuration/maintenance of typical web server software (NGINX, Apache), and common CMSs (WordPress).

  • Experience with networks and network file system management including RAID 0-6, NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, etc.

  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Salt.

  • Experience with Kubernetes tools like Docker, Podman, or Rancher.

  • Experience with cloud solutions like AWS, Azure, Google, etc.

  • Experience with backup solutions such as IBM Protect (Tivoli), Rubrik, NetVault, etc.

  • Experience with HA cluster configuration tools like Pacemaker, etc.

  • Experience with streaming solutions like Wowza, etc.

  • Experience with RAID and storage devices like Dell, EMC, etc.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Six years' direct experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Debian or Ubuntu systems.Redhat certified system administrator a plus.

  • Experience architecting effective, efficient systems solutions for various business needs.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as KVM, oVirt or OpenShift.

  • Extensive knowledge of Kubernetes or Rancher.

  • High level knowledge of Ansible or similar automation tools.

  • Experience with Windows Server administration.

  • Experience supporting software development teams and environments, e.g., configuring CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Drone, or Woodpecker.

  • Experience managing database solutions like MySQL and PostgresSQL.

  • High level experience managing backup solutions.

  • Security+ certification

  • Excellent customer service, communication, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to document processes completely and accurately.

  • Desire to mentor other team members.

  • Work experience in a university setting.

Salary Range

$100,000+ Depending on Qualifications
