Description

Job Summary:




Supports Manufacturing in evaluating, developing, planning, coordinating, directing and improving manufacturing processes. Facilitates manufacturing process and welding process improvement with emphasis on welding automation to achieve better efficiency, repeatability, and reproducibility.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities:





  • Design, program, and maintain PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, etc.)
  • Develop and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA applications
  • Integrate automation systems with robots, vision systems, sensors, and motion control
  • Commission and debug new automated equipment and production lines
  • Diagnoses and resolve electrical, controls, and software issues to minimize downtime
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and IT teams
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (cycle time, scrap, and OEE improvements)
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, I/O lists, control narratives, and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 79, ISO, CE as applicable)
  • Support data acquisition and MES/ERP integration
  • Train technicians and operators on automated systems
  • Manage automation projects from concept through production release

Education and Experience





  • Requires related four (4) year college degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Three (3) to six (6) years Manufacturing Engineering experience in aerospace manufacturing or related industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechanical, Aerospace, Welding or other related Engineering discipline; Mechatronics; or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering
  • Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics
  • Experience with servo systems, VFDs, and industrial sensors
  • Hands-on manufacturing floor support experience

  • Proficient in interpreting complex engineering, tool and equipment drawings.
  • Solid understanding of metallurgical properties of metals used in aerospace.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing processes, e.g., assembly, welding, machining, forming, cleaning and inspection including NDT.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Welding engineering experience preferred
  • Robotics experience (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, UR, etc.)
  • Vision systems experience (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Functional safety systems experience
  • Familiarity with Python, SQL, or automation data analytics
  • Experience in regulated or high-reliability manufacturing environments
