DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Senior Geoscientist, you will play a pivotal role in the preparation of high-quality geologic maps, cross-sections, and various derivative maps that are essential for effective geological analysis. Your expertise will be crucial in leveraging GIS applications and geospatial data, employing advanced tools and queries to create detailed maps, charts, graphics, and data layers that meet the requirements of USGS grants and the broader needs of the bureau. In addition to producing digital cartographic products, you will also be responsible for developing custom scripts aimed at automating processes and enhancing workflow efficiency. A significant aspect of your role will involve establishing and enforcing geospatial data standards, which encompass content, format, design, maintenance, and quality assurance protocols to ensure the integrity and usability of geospatial information. Furthermore, you will actively investigate and assess new data sources, software solutions, equipment, and methodologies, providing recommendations that will enhance the collection, analysis, modeling, and visualization of geospatial data, ultimately contributing to the advancement of geological research and applications.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will require travel and overtime as needed.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Middletown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Geoscientist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Two years of professional geology experience, and a bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geosciences, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes 30 college credits in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
  • This Position requires possession of a valid PA non - commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
