Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Protocol Intern to support the Protocol Office 10-week, full-time during the summer of 2026. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the specialized field of protocol management and the coordination of high-level visits and events. The intern will work directly with the SRNL Protocol Officer, assisting with event planning, government and external relations, internal communications, and various administrative tasks.

The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Protocol Office while receiving invaluable professional development in diplomacy, operations, and government relations.


  1. Support High-Level Visits and Event Coordination:
    1. Assist in organizing logistics for high-profile visits, events, and tours.
    2. Develop detailed event rundowns and visitor briefing documents.
    3. Create and implement a facility tour plan specifically tailored for SRNL's summer interns.
  2. Enhance Government and External Relations:
    1. Develop and maintain a comprehensive contact database for key government officials and external stakeholders.
  3. Improve Internal Communications:
    1. Draft internal memos, emails, and standardized templates related to events and visits.
    2. Communicate key details to relevant SRNL staff, ensuring smooth operations.
  4. Perform Administrative Support Tasks:
    1. Organize and maintain a digital archive of protocol-related records, including visitor logs and event summaries.
    2. Prepare and present a final report summarizing internship experiences, contributions, and recommendations for future improvements.
  5. Conduct Research and Reporting:
    1. Research best practices for protocol management and compile findings into a structured report to share with the Protocol Office.
  6. Engage in Professional Development:
    1. Schedule and participate in informational interviews with senior SRNL staff members to learn about career paths and professional insights.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • GPA 2.5
  • Actively pursuing or holding a degree in International Relations, Communications, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • All applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrable interest in protocol, diplomacy, and public affairs.
  • Third year student
