Job Overview

The Controls Engineer Manager is responsible for directing and providing strategic controls implementation guidance to multiple CCCI Production and Automated Warehouse Locations. The Controls Engineer Manager is responsible for establishing and implementing CCCI standardized best Engineering Controls practices including but not limited to processes that ensure optimal machine performance, overall system efficiency continuous improvement, and productivity gains through advancements in controls logic and available network enhancements. In addition, this role will partner with the CCCI IT team to ensure all Cyber Security requirements are being followed to include VPN access security standards. The Controls Engineer Manager validates all controls programming practices are consistent from location to location; supervises the identification, evaluation, and selective implementation of control solutions; leads the company-wide effort to explore, define, and implement new control practices and control processes within all areas related to automated warehousing systems. This position provides direct support to the various facilities with strategic level project initiatives, local training, and system troubleshooting support.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as both a technical expert and a leader within the company and leads by influence and expertise
  • Develops high-level control strategies for all automated equipment in our Warehouse and Manufacturing Facilities
  • Develops a control strategy for automated warehouse picking systems to include package sorting, release, delivery, palletization, and stretch wrap
  • Assists with the design and development of control systems for new equipment and systems
  • Establishes an overarching Controls philosophy and logic for all equipment systems within the company by establishing coding rules and controls procedures for specific types of manufacturing cells and documenting these practices to ensure standardization
  • Troubleshoots, tests, repairs control systems and assists and provides control logic guidance and training to plant Maintenance Managers
  • Supervises educates and trains plant-level control engineers while maintaining expertise within the Controls Engineer field; stay abreast of new technology, emerging software code, and new equipment
  • Develops, implements, and supports data-driven initiatives to collect, analyze, and leverage automated system performance metrics, enabling improved operational visibility, performance optimization, and informed decision-making across stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • High degree of professionalism
  • Thorough knowledge of and a high skill level programming of motion systems, PLCs, and associated Controls systems
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Allen Bradley and RS View are a plus
  • Ability to understand and properly influence decisions of senior management
  • Ability to influence the decision-making of peers
  • Knowledge of controls systems development methodology
  • Detailed and structured thought process
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels in the organization with strong presentation skills
  • Negotiation and facilitating skills
  • Advanced PLC programming skills

  • Travel 50% - 70%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (4 years)
  • Driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge acquired through 5 to up to 7 years of work experience
  • Electrical Engineering or Controls preferred
  • 5 years of experience as a controls engineer working with automated warehousing
  • Continuous flow conveyor style systems are a plus
  • AB or Rockwell Automation documented training courses or certifications are a plus
  • Experience with IT/OT data exchange in automated system environments
