| Essential Job Duties |
Join
NC State's Power Systems Team, where your expertise helps electrify a thriving campus community. We're seeking a dedicated and skilled
Line Technician I to help maintain and enhance the University's electrical distribution system, supporting over 2,000 acres of facilities, classrooms, and research spaces with a peak demand of 40 megawatts. Large enough to energize 20,000 homes.
In this role, you'll play a vital part in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient power distribution across all NC State campuses. If you take pride in safety, technical precision, problem-solving, and teamwork, this is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the daily life and operations of the Wolfpack community.
Key Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution systems, including underground and overhead lines and street/area lighting.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical infrastructure and equipment to support system reliability.
Inspect electrical distribution system components to identify maintenance, repair, or safety needs.- Complete basic electrical maintenance and repair tasks and escalate complex issues to more senior technicians as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the team to complete assigned projects and service requests.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain accuracy and quality standards in all work performed.
Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, team members, and the university community, and follow verbal and written work instructions.- Lift and transport materials weighing up to 90 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations and perform a wide range of physically demanding tasks in varied outdoor environments, ensuring safe handling practices and maintaining productivity in varying weather and terrain conditions.

| Other Responsibilities |
- This position may be asked to be on-call as a first responder. The role of the first responder is to arrive on campus, assess the situation, and provide information to senior personnel to determine what response is needed.
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency and six months of electrical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Maintains required certification(s). |
| Preferred Qualifications |
- Knowledge of underground and overhead power distribution systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical lines and associated equipment.
- Skill in safely using hand tools, power tools, and specialized electrical testing equipment related to power distribution work.
- Ability to read and interpret basic electrical diagrams, maps, and work orders to support maintenance and repair activities.
- Knowledge of safety practices, regulations, and procedures related to electrical line work, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
