Position Overview
The University of Kansas Upward Bound programs are federally funded TRIO programs that work with first-generation and low-income college-bound students (rising 9th - rising 12th graders) in Shawnee, Douglas, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties with the goal of increasing the rate at which students complete high school and graduate from college.
The Upward Bound Non-Bridge Summer Institute is an intensive six-week academic program that gives participants a chance to experience college life while preparing for their upcoming school year. Students share a room in a university residence hall with other participants and interact with instructors and residence hall advisors while taking academic classes. The instructor for the Upward Bound Program Non-Bridge Summer Institute will develop and implement a content-area curriculum while serving as a role model for high school students participating in the Upward Bound Non-Bridge Summer Institute. Classes are scheduled to take place from Monday to Thursday, spanning June 8 to July 2, 2026. An orientation for instructors is tentatively scheduled for May 14, 2026. The pay rate is $20-$23 per hour depending on qualifications. These positions are temporary summer appointments. Primary Objective: Prepare students in subject areas they may encounter in the upcoming academic year, with a specific focus on imparting study skills essential for success in both high school and college. Secondary Objective: Inspire students towards pursuing higher education and contribute to the development of their self-esteem and sense of achievement.
