The Police Officer 3 is part of the George Washington University Police Department's Patrol Division, reporting to Police Sergeants. The position is responsible for providing basic security and protection over persons and various University buildings within the George Washington University community, and to receive practical on-the-job and formal training necessary to attain and maintain a Special Police Commission from the District of Columbia.
Responsibilities include:
* Patrols assigned areas and buildings to enforce DC laws and administrative GW ordinances.
* Responds to emergencies by assessing the situation and employing tact, diplomacy and individual judgment.
* May assist higher level officers to conduct fact-finding investigations or specific projects, as well as occasionally appear in court regarding various incidents that occur within the University community as necessary.
* Assists higher level staff members to train lower level Officers and provide on-site guidance to lower level officers when needed.
* Performs Public Safety and Emergency Medical dispatch duties when necessary, which includes the requirement to maintain all required training certifications.
* Provides post-academy on-the-job instruction to newly hired officers in the field.
* Is expected to provide feedback of newly hired officers based upon observations of actual on-the-job field experience.
* Must be able to provide direction and limited support to newly hired officers while they are completing field training.
* Possess and maintain a strong knowledge and understanding of department policies and procedures.
* Have a thorough understanding of the District of Columbia criminal code and municipal regulations that pertain to the position.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (
CBA), which governs wages, benefits, and working conditions. |
