Position Summary

To troubleshoot, repair, overhaul equipment in several maintenance systems including machining, electrical, plumbing, or welding.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintenance of machine equipment and hand tools.

  2. Troubleshoot a problem beyond basic component replacement within two or more specific trades.

  3. Responsible for maintenance of equipment records, and administration of preventative maintenance programs.

  4. Installation, alteration, preventative maintenance & repair of various types of production equipment.

  5. Responsible for proper administration of LOTO, confined space and other OSHA guidelines.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/ NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

  2. Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

  3. Maintain production schedules.

  4. Work with groups in initiating and implementation of programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

  5. Other duties may be assigned later.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education required/ preferred:

High School diploma or GED. Minimum of two years trade school or equivalent experience is preferred.

Experience:

Industrial experience in a similar industry preferred.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  2. Proficient in basic mechanical or electrical skills

  3. Excellent precision measuring ability

  4. Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and steam systems

  5. Understand practical aspects of preventative, predictive maintenance systems & proper lubrication selection & application

  6. Able to read blueprints and plans for construction at plant level.

Skills/Competencies:

1. Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office package

2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

3. Ability to use all general mechanical hand tools and light power tools

4. Knowledge of light machine shop tools

5. Understanding of low pressure hydraulic, pneumatic, with the ability to troubleshoot these systems.

Other Skills:

1. Ability to work well in a team environment

2. Self-motivated

3. Detail oriented

Employee must pass Pre-employment screening

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/ SCOPE:

  • Report directly to the Plant Manufacturing Engineering Manager

  • Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Required PPE:

    1. Safety glasses

    2. ANSI Z41 Safety Shoes

  2. Standing is required for extended periods of time. Carrying, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling are done on a frequent basis. Climbing, stooping, and grasping are performed on an occasional basis.

  3. Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions.

  4. Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.

  5. Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to working at high elevations, operation of equipment with guards and safeties removed for troubleshooting, high voltages, steam pressure and high-water pressure and confined spaces.

  6. The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
