GENERAL FUNCTION

The Manager of Learning & Development is responsible for leading the strategy, development and execution of all education and training initiatives that support optical professionals, laboratory partners and customers. This role oversees training in lens technologies, optical standards, sales techniques and patient experience.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Develop and execute a comprehensive educational program that ultimately supports the needs of optical partners and customers.
  • Oversee and create curricula, training content for ABO certifications and learning pathways specific to lenses, coatings, measurement devices, and problem-solving (re-dos, troubleshooting, etc.), ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory guidelines and policies.
  • Define learning priorities across product knowledge, lens technology, optical dispensing and customer experience.
  • Ensure that all learning content is technically accurate, brand-aligned and supporting organizational goals and rollouts.
  • Customize and deliver high-impact presentations to customer groups including ECPs, lab partners, alliance groups and key accounts.
  • Monitor and measure business development and impact of educational programs for multi-location customers such as alliance groups or key accounts.
  • Manage all instructor-led, virtual and digital learning programs showcasing our products.
  • Support and facilitate new hire onboarding and continuing education for the organization, including Sales lens technology.
  • Conduct industry seminars for conferences and speaker bureaus for the purpose of building brand awareness.
  • Establish annual learning KPIs and track program effectiveness.
  • Introduce innovative training formats and/or tools for best practices.
  • Conduct ABO speaking engagements, including state and national associations and optometric associations.
  • Identify educational gaps and build learning solutions that support eye care doctor offices and how they sell to the consumer.
  • Manage training schedules, budgets, educational resources and vendors.
  • Represent at a high level the status of educational initiatives in leadership meetings and strategic annual planning sessions.
  • Conduct competitive analysis. Advise leadership on field needs and optical industry developments.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree or 5 years of experience in education, product training, learning and development or related fields.
  • Knowledge of wholesale optical industry and proven sales experience in the optical industry products are a plus.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills; strong negotiating and problem solving skills;
  • Familiarity with modern learning tools, e-learning or virtual training platforms.
  • Maintains current ABO credentials
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and senior leaderships.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Employee must maintain a valid driver's license and own or have regular access to a reliable vehicle to ensure mobility and timely customer engagement. Must maintain a good driving record.
  • Open to travel up to 50%, including overnight travel

Pay Range: $100k-$145k

This posting is for an existing vacancy within our business.Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements. In addition, you may also be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan, which complements a first-class total rewards package.
