Electrician, North Grounds

Facilities Management (FM) at the University of Virginia is offering an exciting opportunity for an Electrician to contribute to the department's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and service to University North Grounds Zone customers. This role involves maintaining both historic and modern facilities, including the Darden School of Business, UVA Law School, and the US Military JAG School. The selected candidate acts in critical role in ensuring the electrical systems of these diverse structures function smoothly, while working in occupied building spaces. This position is essential in upholding the quality and reliability of services to support the University community.

Electricians are responsible for responding to renovation projects and support to maintenance work orders within North Grounds Zone. They provide labor and technical knowledge for installation and maintenance of building components and mechanical systems while providing a safe environment. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings.

Responsibilities:

• Install and maintain electrical equipment, components and lighting fixtures with proper wiring and material.

• Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and wiring.

• Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.

• Lay out and locate areas to cut or drill holes and openings for installation of sleeve or inserts for passage and support for pipe, fittings, and wire.

• Respond to emergency requests.

• Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.

• Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.

• Assist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.

• Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.

• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent

• Experience: A minimum of four [4] years of experience in all aspects of the electrical operations trade including troubleshooting electrical and other mechanical problems; preference will be given to candidates with 4 or more years of licensed experience.

• Licensure: Journey or Master level electrical license; Valid driver's license with positive points balance plus at least 2 years of driving history.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $24.50 - $29.50 per hour ($50,960 - $61,360 Annually). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks prior to the start date of the position. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.

Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
