Position Summary This position supports UIC's internationalization strategy, spearheaded by the Office of Global Engagement's (OGE), by providing innovative leadership to develop, implement, manage, and market a diverse range of study abroad programs, including faculty-direct, embedded, exchange, research, internship and direct enroll programs that increase UIC students' access to global learning opportunities. Under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Global Engagement, the Study Abroad Office (SAO) Director coordinates with academic and administrative units to develop and support study abroad policies and procedures, including relevant government regulations, and student safety. The SAO Director manages the International Travel Safety portal and advises the VPGE on international travel risks. Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Planning and Goal Setting
Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in a relevant discipline is required. A minimum of five years' experience in the study abroad profession, including experience with study abroad program development and management; demonstrated knowledge of regulations, assessments and best-practices related to all aspects of university-level study abroad, including safety and risk management protocols. Effective leadership skills to supervise a diverse staff. Experience with study abroad software, such as Terra Dotta, and social media platforms. Working knowledge of higher education undergraduate pedagogies. Intermediate skills using general office equipment, Microsoft suite of office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook). Proven ability to work with university faculty and staff in an effective, collegial manner; ability to coordinate among many university colleges and/or units. Attention to detail, ability to foresee and troubleshoot problems or crises, and ability to supervise and/or coordinate with several entities. Preferred Qualifications Intermediate level speaking, writing, and reading ability in a language other than English is preferred.
