The Darden School Foundation seeks a strategic and mission-oriented leader to serve as its next Executive Director with The Armstrong Center for Alumni Career Services (ACS). The Executive Director of The Armstrong Center is responsible for the strategy, development, and delivery of career services to degreed alumni worldwide including MBA, Part Time MBA, MBA for Executives, Ph.D., and Master of Business Analytics of the Darden School.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversees the development and execution of career programming to an international alumni audience.
  • Manages the ACS Senior Associate Director of Programming and Operations, who oversees the planning, logistics, and marketing of ACS career programming, as well as all operations and technology that support the Armstrong Center's activities.
  • Skip level manager of ACS Operations Associate who is responsible for all administrative duties related to the Armstrong Center's operations.
  • Responsible for the ACS budget and responsible use of resources.
  • Identifies, recruits, directs, and develops a team of contract career coaches that provides one-on-one coaching and career programming for alumni around the globe. Ensures contractor engagement, alignment, and consistency of advising standard.
  • Coaches Darden alumni one-on-one though career transitions and on-the-job challenges. Carries a significant part of the career coaching load.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of online resources that support career transition and success.
  • Responsible for alumni awareness of ACS services and resources through communications, marketing, events, and extensive relationship building.
  • Responsible for the development of thought leadership content for the ACS blog and other Darden publications.
  • Collaborates with Advancement & Engagement, as well as many other internal Darden stakeholders, to plan and execute opportunities for expanding alumni engagement.
  • Collaborates with the student-facing Career Development Center to ensure alignment in career guidance and programming, ensuring a smooth transition for students who need continued support immediately post-graduation.

Successful candidates will have a proven track record that includes:

  • An MBA from a top-tier program is strongly preferred. Master's degree in human resource development or related field would be considered.
  • 10-15 years' minimum experience in a business-related capacity at the management level with at least two years' experience in career development.
  • Extensive knowledge of businesses, industries, and job functions as well as global economic trends impacting career advancement, hiring and firing.
  • People management experience, including remote workers.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, facilitating group activities, and workshop delivery.
  • Skilled at establishing and maintaining effective relationships with alumni, staff, and faculty.
  • Experience working with adult career development issues, as a manager, human capital professional, and/or formal coach.
  • Formal coaching experience and certification (ICF accredited) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience utilizing job search and career management resources.
  • It is optimal to have experience administering and interpreting career assessments as well as have knowledge of outplacement process and design.
  • Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, training, and experience.
  • Some travel required for alumni events.
