Job Summary: |
Quality clinical care, professional development, and academic advancement are key missions of The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The General GI Section Head is a mixed clinical/administrative position providing leadership, clinical oversight and coordination, and professional support for providers (MD's and APP's) within the General GI Section at the University of Colorado Hospital, Anschutz Medical Campus. The General GI Section Head is a mixed clinical service (0.9 cFTE) and leadership position (0.1 cFTE). The General GI Section Head partners with and serves as a key liaison between the Division Director, Associate Division Directors, Medical Directors, Lead APP, and Endoscopy and Clinic nursing leadership assure the delivery of high-quality clinical care, efficient and effective clinical operations, academic advancement, and a positive work environment for the General GI faculty. The Section Head's primary clinical practice site will be the University of Colorado Hospital, Anschutz Medical Campus. Clinical responsibilities include outpatient and inpatient GI consultative and endoscopic services. This position is 5 days per week, allocated as 1 half-day of administrative leadership/section head, 2 half-days of clinic, 5 half-days of endoscopy, and 2 half-days of clinical administrative time weekly. Additionally, they will provide nights/weekends call coverage at the University of Colorado Hospital and affiliate hospitals (Denver Veterans Affairs Hospital, Denver Health Medical Center) in equitable rotation with other members of the group. Key Leadership Responsibilities: Team Leadership & Communication
Serve as an advocate for General GI faculty within the division, ensuring their voices are represented in leadership discussions. Host regular meetings (at a cadence determined by the Section Head and team) with General GI faculty to understand concerns, provide updates, and foster team engagement. Act as a liaison between physician and administrative leadership and general GI faculty to ensure alignment of clinical/division goals and team cohesion. Attend bi-weekly GI division leadership meetings to provide General GI section perspective and input. Meet with the Associate Division Director for Clinical affairs quarterly to evaluate current and future workforce, review metrics pertaining to General GI providers, identify issues, and plan strategically for growth.
Recruitment, Onboarding & Mentorship
- Help to recruit and interview General GI faculty applicants (MD and APP) in collaboration with division and administrative leaders.
- Develop and implement onboarding plans for new provider hire in the General GI section.
- Serve as a mentor to General GI faculty, offering professional guidance and support throughout their career progression.
Performance, Operations & Development
- Collaborate with Division directors on developing, implementing, and tracking General GI faculty clinical productivity metrics.
- Meet regularly with section members to provide feedback on performance, clinical productivity, and professional/academic development.
- Collaborate with Division and clinic leadership in addressing provider performance, professionalism, or behavioral issues.
- Evaluate workflows and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and General GI faculty satisfaction.
- Work with division leadership to identify and promote professional development opportunities for section members and ensure faculty are well-informed of available resources and events.
- Work with division well-being leaders for General GI provider well-being needs and program support.
- Act as first reviewer for General GI MD PRiSM evaluations.
- As needed, review provider compensation and collaborate with the Division Administrator for salary benchmarking and negotiation.
Education and training program
- Collaborate with fellowship program directors (APP and MD) to coordinate fellowship training needs and faculty educational responsibilities to ensure these remain balanced and feasible.
- Interface with the fellowship program directors, medical directors, and practice managers to ensure that integration of trainees (fellows, students) into clinic and endoscopy aligns with the overall operational and productivity strategies of the section.
- Along with fellowship leaders, assess candidacy of fellow-to-faculty hires, incorporating strategic growth needs of the group and fellow performance/clinical acumen.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: Assistant Professor:
A medical degree from an accredited institution Board certification in Gastroenterology Must have, or be eligible to obtain, an active State of Colorado medical license Must have an active DEA license on or before hire date At least 3 years of post-graduate GI clinical practice experience Prior academic appointment to the level of Assistant Professor from a previous institution Clear record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to be appointed as an Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Experience with Electronic Medical Records, such as Epic ACLS and BLS certification
Associate Professor:
A medical degree from an accredited institution Board certification in Gastroenterology Must have, or be eligible to obtain, an active State of Colorado medical license Must have an active DEA license on or before hire date At least 5 years of post-graduate GI clinical practice experience Prior academic appointment to the level of Associate Professor from a previous institution Clear record of scholarship, teaching, and service sufficient to be appointed as an Associate Professor or higher at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Experience with Electronic Medical Records, such as Epic ACLS and BLS certification
Professor:

Anticipated Pay Range: |
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: Assistant Professor: $350,000-$390,000 Associate Professor: $365,000-$410,000 Professor: $410,000- $450,000 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
