Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess a license to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant in New York State.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
- Experience with the geriatric population in a long-term care setting.
- Experience with serving the Veteran population.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, Registered Nurse, Supervising Licensed Practical Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will have primary responsibility for the direct hands-on care rendered to the residents of the Home.
- Assisting residents in bathing, dressing, and other activities of daily living. Attention being given to ensure that residents are appropriately dressed, neat in appearance, and have their glasses, dentures, and any other prosthetic device needed to enable them to function at their highest level.
- Recognizing changes in residents' conditions, reporting promptly outward signs, symptoms of infection, rashes, conditions, and any changes in mental status or ability to carry out ADLs to the Charge Nurse.
- Following correct policies and procedures in carrying out simple treatments, positioning and transferring residents, applying splints and restraints. Seeking help from the Charge Nurse if unsure.
- Carrying out routine assignments in a calm, efficient manner, referring to the procedure manual as needed. Being sensitive to and understanding of the needs of the residents. Encouraging them to do as much for themselves as possible.
- Being considerate of resident's rights, dignity, and age.
- Following and implementing the fire plan, and other disaster preparedness plans.
- Observing equipment to ensure that it functions properly, reporting any in need of repair.
- Leaving resident rooms and work areas in a clean and tidy manner, beds are made correctly, storage areas are clean and neat, equipment is used and stored properly, utilizing supplies provided for the resident as they are intended.
- Organizing assignments to facilitate needs of the residents, ensuring that appointments are kept timely.
- Measuring and recording fluid and food intake.
- Care of ostomies, including but not limited to colostomy and ileostomy.
- Maintenance of individualized range of motion to prevent contractures.
- Recognizing and reporting abnormal signs and symptoms of common diseases and conditions, including but not limited to:
- Shortness of breath;
- Rapid respiration;
- Coughs;
- Chills;
- Pain and pains in chest or abdomen;
- Blue color to lips;
- Nausea;
- Vomiting;
- Drowsiness;
- Excessive thirst;
- Sweating;
- Pus;
- Blood or sediment in urine;
- Difficult or painful urination;
- Foul-smelling or concentrated urine, and
- Urinary frequency.
- Follow-up and reporting of pain management.
- Participating in the required quarterly in-service education to maintain certification; meeting all necessary requirements to be recertified every two years.
- Attends mandatory in-service and educational programs.
- Reports to work on time, in uniform with identification. Adheres to schedule, and call-in policy. Maintains an accurate time sheet and submits timely to supervisor.
