Position Summary:

The Software Developer designs, builds, enhances, and supports CenterPoint's internal software solutions that enable efficient business operations and data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. This role collaborates closely with technology team members and business stakeholders to translate requirements into secure, maintainable applications and workflows that improve productivity and user experience.

This position contributes across the full software development lifecycle-requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and documentation-using CenterPoint's standard development tools and methodology. The Software Developer is expected to heavily leverage AI coding tools to accelerate delivery and improve quality while following responsible-use practices and established DevOps and secure SDLC patterns.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance internal applications and supporting services, leveraging AI tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT), to improve business processes and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements, model business processes, and translate needs into intuitive software features, screens, and reports.
  • Build and support web applications and workflow solutions using CenterPoint's Microsoft-centric stack (e.g., Angular/TypeScript, C#/.NET, HTML/CSS, Power BI, Power Automate, etc.), as applicable to the solution.
  • Develop and maintain data access layers, integrations, and supporting database objects (e.g., TSQL, relational database design) to enable reliable internal systems and analytics.
  • Contribute to ETL/data movement and data-management capabilities when solutions require data across system boundaries.
  • Follow source control and modern delivery practices (e.g., git, CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Enterprise) to ensure repeatable, low-risk deployments.
  • Write and maintain clean, well-structured, well-documented code; produce technical documentation, help guides, and release notes to support long-term maintainability.
  • Perform testing and quality practices appropriate to the change (e.g., unit/integration testing, regression validation) and participate in peer reviews to improve reliability and security.
  • Troubleshoot issues, resolve defects, and improve application performance, stability, and usability over time.
  • Use AI coding assistants and related tooling to augment productivity (e.g., drafting code, tests, documentation) while adhering to security/privacy expectations and responsible-use guardrails.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvement; recommend pragmatic solutions that reduce cycle time and improve user outcomes.
  • Act in accordance with CenterPoint values and comply with company processes and procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of related software development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and supporting internal business applications, including requirements gathering and translating business needs into system designs.
  • Working knowledge of modern web development and/or Microsoft-stack application development (e.g., Angular/TypeScript, HTML/CSS, and C#/.NET or similar backend experience).
  • Significant experience with relational databases and data querying (e.g., TSQL, database structures, and data modeling fundamentals).
  • Experience with source control and modern engineering workflows (e.g., git) and CI/CD delivery practices (e.g., GitHub Enterprise).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft cloud and enterprise tooling (e.g., Azure, Windows-based application hosting concepts) in support of internal systems.
  • Ability to apply AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly, with awareness of privacy/security considerations and prompt hygiene.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills; able to diagnose root causes and implement durable fixes. A positive, can-do attitude, an ability to collaborate and communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues and a willingness to do what it takes to make projects succeed.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and an ability to document solutions effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain a professional demeanor, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experience with Power Platform (Power Apps/Power Automate) and/or Power BI is a plus, depending on solution needs.
  • Flexible with respect to work schedule; able to travel when required.
  • Expected to work in the office four days per week when not traveling (time spent traveling counts as "in office").
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
