National Grid is hiring a Designer, Drafting and Designing in Hicksville, NY.

Job Purpose

Responsible to prepare mechanical piping and/or structural designs for new systems and modifications/additions to existing mechanical steam, water, hydraulic and associated auxiliary systems, main steam systems and HVAC systems in Steam Electric and Gas Turbine generating Stations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Work closely with plant staff and engineers to establish equipment locations, pipe and piping support physical designs.
  • Support the preparation of detailed drawings of mechanical physical arrangements, piping system layout and support diagrams/schematics in AutoCAD.
  • Preparation of computerized Bill of material with applicable code requirements.
  • Assemble mechanical drawing work packages and prepare transmittal letters.
  • Support the development of design work hour and material estimates.
  • Familiar with the ASME and NFPA Codes.
  • Perform field surveys to support design development and record as-built conditions.
  • Provide technical support to field installation and commissioning forces and as required at any of the power station sites in the service territory.
  • Interface with mechanical engineers, other engineering disciplines, engineers/designers, plant staff, National Grid maintenance support departments, and installation Contractors.
Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of related power plant mechanical and piping systems or equivalent experience.
  • General knowledge of mechanical power systems equipment, controls, instrumentation and piping design.
  • Experience inspecting mechanical installation work.
  • Experience is equipment layout, developing flow diagrams, designing associated piping systems including supports
  • Experience working with other engineering design disciplines.
  • Completed courses in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology. Bachelors or Associate degree in related field preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, raster design (CAD overlay), document management systems (such as Opentext) and use of computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills.
  • A valid New York State driver's license.

Salary

$101,000 - $118,000 a year
