Testing Operations Supervisor (Automotive)

Location: Chelsea, MI

Pay: Up to $35.00/hour

Shift: 2nd Shift (training on day shift for 1-2 months)

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Testing Operations Supervisor to support vehicle testing operations at a major automotive proving grounds. This role will co-lead a large union workforce across durability, performance, and safety testing while ensuring efficient operations, safety compliance, and high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities



  • Co-lead a 200+ member team of drivers, mechanics, and support staff in a 24/7 operation
  • Assign vehicles, manage test schedules, and ensure proper execution of testing activities
  • Oversee maintenance workflows, including work orders and minimizing downtime
  • Lead shift meetings, communicate priorities, and coordinate daily operations
  • Ensure accurate documentation of vehicle issues and test results
  • Act as liaison between engineering teams and garage operations
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies, following established protocols
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Approve timecards, support coaching, and handle performance management



Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or GED required; degree in business, automotive, or engineering preferred
  • 1+ year of related experience with prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience working in a union environment (SBU/HBU preferred)
  • Knowledge of automotive testing, vehicle systems, or repair processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
