What to Expect

As a Collision Tools & Equipment Engineer, you will drive innovation and efficiency by optimizing Tesla's tools and equipment portfolio for collision repair. You will ensure internal and third-party technicians have the necessary tools, equipment, and consumables to repair Tesla models to OEM specifications. We are seeking an experienced engineer to lead the evaluation, selection, and development of tooling requirements for the Collision Organization.

This position can be based in Fremont, CA or Austin, TX.


What You'll Do
  • Lead the research, design, development, and integration of custom and off-the-shelf collision tooling and equpment from concept through production readiness, including commissioning and acceptance testing
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to ensuretooling solutions are robust, repeatable, and cost-effective at scale, while maintaining accurate documentation of all designs, analyses, and qualification records
  • Develop and optimize repair and equipment-use processes to reduce cycle time, improve quality, and lower cost per repair
  • Define and track equipment performance metrics including OEE and uptime; conduct structured root cause analysis to identify issues and implement sustainable corrective actions
  • Lead supplier development and RFQ processes, managing supplier performance, lead time tracking, and BOM reconciliation to deliver high-value tooling solutions that meet design, performance, and cost targets
  • Collaborate with collision engineering, production, quality, EHS, and supply chain teams to develop tools that streamline repair processes, improve technician experience, and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Author and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and equipment qualification records in adherence to collision industry standards and Tesla quality requirement

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering field from ABET accredited program or equivalent experience
  • The candidate must be willing to tackle any technical challenge, assist and learn from others in their areas of expertise, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality
  • Broad experience with prototyping and fabrication methods, and project management
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (CATIA a plus), GD&T, and surface modeling
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance (OSHA, CE, CCC, ASME standards)
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned
  • Can obtain Tesla forklift certification if required

    Expected Compensation
    $109,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
