Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead AV Technician to oversee the installation, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of professional audiovisual systems for large-scale commercial new construction projects. This role leads field crews, maintains quality control, supports project communication, and delivers fully integrated AV solutions using platforms such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, AMX, and Dante. The Lead Technician will also mentor junior technicians and ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with industry standards. Job Responsibilities
Lead AV installation teams on commercial new construction projects while ensuring schedule, quality, and safety expectations are met.
Install, configure, and commission commercial AV systems, including displays, projectors, DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, control systems, and related infrastructure.
Build and wire equipment racks with clean cable management, proper labeling, and accurate documentation.
Perform and oversee low-voltage cabling terminations, including CAT5e, CAT6, coax, RG6, HD-SDI, XLR, RCA, and 18/2.
Install and manage cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, and ladder racks.
Perform system bring-up, DSP tuning, control system testing, and final system verification.
Troubleshoot audio, video, control, and networked AV system issues.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, risers, engineered drawings, and project documentation.
Communicate project progress and updates with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders.
Mentor and train junior technicians on installation standards, safety practices, and AV best practices.
Maintain site readiness and enforce applicable safety standards.
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of commercial AV installation experience, including at least 1 year in a lead role.
Experience leading AV installation crews on commercial new construction projects.
Experience installing commercial AV systems, including displays, projectors, DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, and control hardware.
Experience with Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS, AMX, and Dante required.
Strong understanding of AV signal flow, AV networking, and integrated control systems.
Experience with rack building, system wiring, labeling, and cable management.
Experience with low-voltage cabling and terminations, including CAT5e, CAT6, coax, RG6, HD-SDI, XLR, RCA, and 18/2.
Experience installing cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, and ladder racks.
Experience with system commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and verification.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
Basic hand tools required.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
AVIXA CTS certification preferred.
Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Experience
Commercial AV new construction experience required.
Experience working across corporate, retail, education, industrial, hospital, and healthcare environments preferred.
