Who we are and what we do:

The Assistant Public Defender will work at the pleasure of the District Public Defender and will be under his/her direct supervision. The attorney will assume the duties and responsibilities of representing indigent persons for whom the District Public Defender has been appointed as counsel by the Court.

Job Overview:

  1. Represent clients in Juvenile, General Sessions, Circuit and Appellate Courts
  2. Believe in the presumption of innocence and care about protecting clients constitutional rights
  3. Have a demonstrated commitment to the defense of indigent persons
  4. Have a strong work ethic in representing clients zealously and ethically
  5. Manage a large and varied caseload with professionalism
  6. Be able to work both independently and collaboratively with other people
  7. Work to establish a relationship of trust and confidence with clients
  8. Communicate regularly, respectfully and honestly with clients
  9. Review and analyze all case information, conduct Investigations, and do legal research
  10. Diligently and thoroughly document all work and information gathered for a case
  11. Provide all information gathered to support staff for the physical and digital case file

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Licensed Attorney
