Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary

The Assistant Athletic Director - Student-Athlete Benefits and Services position is responsible for the administration and oversight of athletics financial aid, student-athlete benefits, and related financial operations. The role ensures compliance with NCAA, ACC, and University regulations while serving as a key liaison with campus and external partners. The position also manages financial processing, reporting, and budgeting functions that support student-athlete programs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Two years of experience in Division I FBS athletics compliance, athletic risk management and/or university financial aid services preferred; working knowledge of NCAA regulations, NCAA Compliance Assistant (CAi) and NCAA Legislative Services database (LSDBi); excellent communication and organizational skills, along with proficiency with Excel spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Five years of experience in Division I FBS athletics compliance, scholarships and student aid, and/or university business services preferred; working knowledge of NCAA regulations, NCAA Compliance Assistant (CAi) and NCAA Legislative Services database (LSDBi); excellent communication and organizational skills, along with proficiency with Excel spreadsheets.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to move/lift 20 lbs or more. May be required to navigate stairs. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to manage a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Night, evening and weekend work may be required. Travel may be required.
