Job Description
General Purpose of Job: Responsible for providing assessment, evaluation and treatment of neonates in the RNICU in collaboration with the Neonatologists. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Assessing, planning, and evaluating medical care in collaboration with the Neonatologists
- Report accurately and concisely in-patient care rounds and problem oriented documentation
- Collaborate with health care team in planning and coordinating care for the neonate and his/her family through care conferences
- Orders diagnostic studies and therapeutic measures in collaboration with the responsible physician
- Orders medications utilizing approved NICU goals, guidelines and protocols (includes blood and blood products)
- Attend high-risk deliveries, resuscitate and stabilize patients
- Determine need for and perform core specialized diagnostic, therapeutic and other procedures
- Perform the following procedures after consultation with a Neonatologist (unless life threatening situation): exchange transfusion, initiation of oscillator ventilator support, pericardiocentesis, thoracotomy for chest tube insertion
- Provide direction to NNTS on transport or participate on transports when appropriate
- Provide consultation to Newborn Nursery and Perinatal areas
- Assist in clinical supervision and teaching of residents, advanced practice nursing students, and PA students
- Participates in performance evaluations
- Formulate long and short-term goals based on self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses
- Participate as appropriate in the formulation, revision and implementation of policies and procedures in the RNICU
- Participate in performance improvement
- Assist in maintaining a climate conductive to open communication
- Act a role model and resource for peers, residents and nursing staff
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior
- Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow Health System's Customer Service Behavioral Standards of Performance by respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve
- Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient, service provider, and organizational confidentiality procedures and protocols defined under HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information
- Maintains and protects patients' rights under the HIPAA privacy standards
- Apply research findings in one's practice and teaching
- Support and participate in research activities
- Promote understanding of research projects and/or findings for nursing students, staff, and peers
Job Requirements
| General Requirements |
* Neonatal Resuscitation Program completion * BLS * Maintenance of certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with a national certification and advanced training in neonatal medicine * Completion of hospital credentialing |

* RN with current Michigan License * Minimal completion of a Bachelor of Science of Nursing * Completion of neonatal nurse practitioner approved program * Preferred - Masters in Pediatric or Maternal Child nursing |

* Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate nursing and medical interventions * Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other Hospital Associates * Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in his/her assigned service area as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of this position * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. |
