THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Within this role, you will perform semi-skilled tasks to support construction, maintenance, and repair work across the hospital campus. This role involves hands-on labor, safe equipment use, and teamwork with other skilled workers. As a Semi Skilled Laborer, you will perform the following duties:

  • Grounds Work: Cut grass, trim shrubs, rake debris, and maintain outdoor areas using various hand and power tools
  • Material Handling: Load and unload trucks, move furniture or equipment, and transport materials
  • Maintenance Support: Make basic repairs to buildings and facilities using tools from several trades
  • Trade Assistance: Assist skilled workers with tasks such as demolition, mixing cement, and setting up scaffolds
  • Snow Removal: Clear snow from walkways and work areas during winter conditions
  • Painting Tasks: Prepare surfaces and apply paint to walls, ceilings, and woodwork

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited-term, full-time employment, not to exceed one year.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • May change based upon operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
