Summary:

The Corporate Counsel, Payer Strategy & Revenue (CC) serves as MaineHealth's senior legal and strategic advisor for payer contracting, reimbursement, payer relations, and revenue optimization, the CC provides expert legal guidance on payer agreements, regulatory requirements, and payer disputes while overseeing and supervising the systemwide Payer Contracting team.

This role is accountable for payer negotiations, contracting strategy, dispute resolution, and ensuring alignment between contracting operations and MaineHealth's financial, operational, and access-to-care goals. The CC plays a pivotal role in reducing administrative barriers to care, strengthening payer relationships, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting payer-related policy and legislative initiatives.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  2. License/Certifications: Active bar membership in Maine or another U.S. state, with ability to join the Maine bar within 12 months.
  3. Experience: Five years of progressive healthcare legal experience including substantial payer contracting and reimbursement work; demonstrated success in complex negotiations and resolving payer performance or compliance issues
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Deep understanding of commercial and government payer structures, contracting frameworks, and healthcare regulation. Strong analytical skills with ability to translate legal/contract terms into operational impact.
  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Experience in an integrated health system or large provider network. Knowledge of payer legislation, regulatory policy, and compliance programs. Familiarity with Epic or similar analytics platforms.
