MaineHealth Surgical Care is seeking a fellowship-trained, full-time surgical oncologist to join its well-established team in Portland, Maine, with the potential to become the Associate Medical Director of General Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery. The surgeon will be expected to have a track record of clinical excellence in cutaneous oncology and sarcoma, with a potential additional arena of clinical interest, such as cytoreductive surgery or abdominal sarcoma. This surgeon will be a member of the Division of Surgical Oncology, Section of General Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery. The Division includes 12 full-time surgeons, four of whom practice in this Section.

  • Part of a statewide oncology care program- the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is an integrated cancer care delivery network across the Southern, Coastal and Mountain regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire. Designed to provide care as close to home as possible, the network comprises 11 hospital partners and provides comprehensive cancer careto more than 8,000 cancer patients annually.
  • Current program includes TVEC, limb perfusion, and a robust multidisciplinary team.
  • MHCCN is the dominant cancer care provider in the state of Maine with COC, NAPBC, and NAPRC-accredited comprehensive cancer care programs.
  • Fully integrated surgical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, patient support/social worker, and nutritionist service.
  • Leading-edge analytics and metrics, including membership of ASCO CancerLinQ. EPIC EMR system with BEACON and ClinicalPath platforms.
  • Academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine.
  • Teaching and mentoring residents and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Program.
  • Research opportunities exist in clinical, translational, and basic science. The surgeon will be part of MaineHealth and the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN).

Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certification/Board Eligible in general surgery, having completed a residency in general surgery.
  • Completion of a Society of Surgical Oncology-accredited Fellowship or having Board Certification in advance of Surgical Oncology.
